Rooted in Deceit
by Wendy Tyson

It’s summertime in Winsome. Washington Acres is abloom, Megan is preparing for the grand opening of their wood-fired pizza farm, and things with Megan’s beau, handsome Dr. Finn, are getting as hot as the August temperatures.

But when Megan’s ne’er-do-well father arrives in Pennsylvania with his high-maintenance Italian wife, Sylvia, and announces they’re staying at the new yoga retreat center a town away, a sweet occasion sours.

Eager to secure pieces for her Milan boutique, Sylvia finagles a meeting with up-and-coming artist Thana Moore, whose work is showing at the retreat center. After their explosive encounter, Thana is murdered and Sylvia becomes the prime suspect.

Only Sylvia isn’t the only one with ties to the artist—once upon a time, Thana Moore had been Megan’s best friend.

As Megan delves into Thana’s past, piecing together the years since their falling out, she realizes that something sinister is afoot in Bucks County. Unless Megan can find the killer, this idyllic summer will turn nightmarish. Innocent people may be imprisoned—and even more could die.

Wendy Tyson's Bio

Writers find inspiration in the most unlikely places — a faint smile, an odd turn of phrase, a boarded up old house tucked into the Alps on a hiking trail outside of Chamonix. It’s hard to say what little spark will find its way into the deepest corners of the imagination and ignite a story. I’ve been writing for a long time. You can find my short fiction in literary journals like KARAMU, Eclipse and Concho River Review, and while I have the utmost respect for the short story format, it’s the novel I love. All that room to explore. I’m grateful to my teachers, those other novelists whose stories taught me that through fiction we are not simply entertained, but we can share what it means to be human. For now, I’ll continue here in my small corners of the world (Philadelphia and Vermont) and do my best to be open to the everyday wonders that can be nurtured and nudged into a novel. I’m working on the next book in the Allison Campbell series and the second book in the Greenhouse series, as well as a standalone thriller and some creative nonfiction. Dogs underfoot, coffee at my side, I hope to make my characters come alive for you.
